Newton_revolving_orbits_1_inv2_inv3.png (468 × 473 pixels, file size: 4 KB, MIME type: image/png)

Summary

Description Related to Newton_revolving_orbits_1_2_3_6.png, but now shows the 2nd (red) and 3rd (green) subharmonics of the base ellipse (shown in black). Briefly, if an inverse-cubic force of the correct magnitude were added to the inverse-square gravitational attraction, these planetary orbits would be produced. The ellipticity is 0.8, as in Newton_revolving_orbits_1_2_3_6.png and Newton_revolving_orbits_1_0.95.png.
